Who the Hell is Ryu Ishigori? Jujutsu Kaisen’s Cursed Energy Anomaly

The Culling Game introduced some of the most powerful and dangerous fighters in the entire Jujutsu Kaisen universe. Among them is a man who holds a terrifying and legendary record: Ryu Ishigori. But who exactly is he, and what makes him such a massive threat?

A 400-Year-Old Hunger for Combat

Ryu Ishigori is a reincarnated sorcerer from over 400 years ago. During his original lifetime, despite his overwhelming strength, he never managed to fulfill his deep, burning desire for a worthy fight. He lived his life feeling unsatisfied, describing it as a meal that lacked a proper "dessert."

That’s exactly why he made a binding vow and a deal with Kenjaku. He wanted a second chance at life to find an opponent who could truly satisfy his hunger for combat. And that is how he ended up reincarnating as a major player in the deadly Culling Game.

The Highest Cursed Energy Output in History

Ryu holds a very specific and lethal record: he has the highest cursed energy output in history.

His innate technique, known as Cursed Energy Discharge, is brutally simple but devastatingly effective. It allows him to fire pure cursed energy at absurd, terrifying levels. He essentially acts as a human cannon, and each of his blast attacks carries the raw potential to completely erase entire city areas off the map.

Breaking the Rules of Domain Expansion

On top of his raw destructive power, Ryu has an ability that makes him completely abnormal. Typically in the world of jujutsu, when a sorcerer expands their Domain, their cursed technique is temporarily exhausted and burned out immediately after the domain collapses.

However, Ryu breaks that fundamental rule. Because his cursed technique and his natural cursed energy output are essentially the exact same thing, he can keep firing his devastating blasts even right after using his Domain Expansion. This lack of a cooldown makes him a complete anomaly within sorcery.

His greatest feat, and the "dessert" he was always searching for, was facing off against the special grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu in a monstrous, multi-way battle in the Sendai Colony.
